Writing Prompts: The New Year’s Edition

I recently did a post on great New Year’s resolutions for writers, and in it I mentioned one of the most obvious (yet hardest) goals: writing every day. If you are bound and determined to keep this goal, then let me help out a bit by giving you a few writing prompts related to new beginnings, new goals, and the new year. So what are you waiting for? Start completing your goal today and write.

  1. Allie hates how the gym she attends daily gets so crowded during January and the first half of February, so she devises a nefarious scheme that will make her new fellow gym-attendees give up their weight loss goals faster.
  2. Annabelle grew up in Florida her whole life though she has recently moved to Minnesota to start her dream job. On her first day of work, she has to learn how to drive through the perils of snowy weather.
  3. John wakes on New Year’s Day only to discover that he is repeating last year, Groundhog Day style. He decides to change last year for the better since everybody hated 2016.
  4. Tell me the story of a genie’s New Year’s resolutions. How does he manage to keep them between granting others’ wishes and living in a bottle?

Do you have more ideas for New Year’s writing prompts? If so, then share them in the comments below, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
